Peter Hinck, a recreational angler who lives in Sebastian, has been documenting sea grass growth, or lack there of, at Black Point in the Indian River Lagoon.

There were acres of sea grass growing in the area in early August, Hinck says in his video. Now, he says, it’s nearly gone.

In early October, coffee-colored water was pouring into the lagoon and area waterways all along the Treasure Coast.

The water was a combination of rainfall runoff from western Martin, St. Lucie and Indian RIver counties and Lake Okeechobee discharges after Hurricane Irma struck in September.

The dirty water made its way through canals and eventually out to the ocean:

C-54 Canal to the Sebastian River to the Indian River Lagoon to the Sebastian Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean
C-25 Canal to Taylor Creek to the Indian River Lagoon to the Fort Pierce Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean
C-24 Canal to the North Fork of the St. Lucie River to the St. Lucie Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean
C-23 Canal to the St. Lucie River to the St. Lucie Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean
